Victims to leaflet Savanna neighborhood where accused molester/Paula Deen's brother-in-law lived
Accused of drugging, abusing boy for years, then
He killed himself after named in sex abuse lawsuit
It is safe and right to talk about abuse, leaflet says
We fear there may be other victims, group believes
What: Victims of sexual abuse and their supporters will leaflet a Savannah neighborhood where an accused former priest worked and lived. The leaflets will:
- Alert neighbors about accusations and a lawsuit against former priest Henry B. Groover II,
- Let people know that it is safe and right to talk about abuse,
- Ask people to come forward if they have information or are witnesses to abuse, and
- Urge victims to report abuse to law enforcement and get help and healing.
Where: Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 222 East Harris Street, Savannah. Then to the neighborhood surrounding 112 Palmetto Drive, Savannah.
When: Wednesday, February 1, at 1:00 pm
Who:Members of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAPNetwork.org), including a St. Louis woman who the group's Outreach Director.
Why: Victims of sexual abuse and their supporters are passing out leaflets in a Savannah neighborhood in the hopes of reaching out to victims of abuse and alerting the neighborhood about an accused former priest.
Last month, former priest, Henry B. Groover II was was accused in a civil lawsuit of drugging and sexually abusing a boy. Days after being served, He committed suicide. http://www.nationalenquirer.com/photos/paula-deen-pedophile-brother-in-law/
Groover was the brother-in-law of celebrity chef Paula Deen and was the woman’s “spiritual advisor."SNAP fears there may be other victims of Groover in the area who are scared to come forward and report. The group also believes that neighbors may know of valuable information that can help victims. They will be urging people to talk to their children, friends and neighbors about abuse and report anything they know to law enforcement, no matter the offender.

2023 has been a long year with many ups and downs for us all. As we close out the year, we at SNAP hope that you are feeling like you are on your way to being healthy, fulfilled, and happy. This past year has brought both successes and challenges. Thanks to the support you have shown in the past, we’ve been able to celebrate the good days and weather the stormy ones. Now, we are once again asking for your support as we work to support survivors new and old as we ‘Move SNAP Forward.’
At SNAP we are proud to have hosted a very well-attended conference in August 2023. This event allowed us to gather friends, survivors, advocates, and allies for a weekend of camaraderie and connection. We were so happy to be able to welcome many first-time attendees to gather in person and are already looking forward to the next conference.
To strengthen our movement for justice, healing, and prevention, SNAP will be expanding our peer support and providing more volunteer opportunities in the coming year. Through this great work, we are ensuring survivor voices are represented as we work for significant change that will benefit children and survivors.
Right now, survivors worldwide are getting the help they need from SNAP, and more and more reach out to us daily, but we need your help to keep those programs going and get our volunteers the training they need to thrive.
